Bank of Lithuania hat geschrieben:The Bank of Lithuania awaits proposals of the topics to be memorialised in collector coins

The Bank of Lithuania addressed scientific and cultural institutions, public organisations, government institutions and asked them to express their opinion on the most significant historical events or famous persons to be memorialised in collector (commemorative) coins, which the Bank of Lithuania could issue in 2014–2015.

“Collector coins are the money that represents our country, therefore, the Bank of Lithuania devotes much attention to the topics of coins and their minting quality. Traditionally, we issue into circulation 4–7 collector coins per year, we plan their subjects after advance consultations with the public” said Mr. Audrius Misevičius, Member of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania, Chairman of the Currency Design and Production Commission.

According to the usual practice, the dates of events memorialised in coins should conform to such sequence: 10 years, 25 years and then every 25 years.

The Bank of Lithuania will await proposals on the historical events or famous persons to be memorialised in collector coins in 2014–2015 by 21 May 2012.

“During the preparation of the new plan of issue of collector coins, we will evaluate the proposals received by the Bank of Lithuania”, promised Mr. Misevičius.

Collector coins commemorate landmark events in the history of our state and the world, prominent people and architectural monuments. The Bank of Lithuania has already issued 71 collector coins and 7 circulation commemorative coins.
