In place of the regular two-euro piece, the set includes both two-euro special coins launched in 2016. The theme of the coinage is the collector coin minting process.
In 2016, special two-euro coins were released in honour of poet Eino Leino and philosopher Georg Henrik von Wright. All of the coins are packaged in uncirculated and freshly-minted condition. In their packaging, the coins will retain their lustre for years.
The coinage is dedicated to minting process of collector coins
The 2016/II coinage is the sixth released in the Coins and Collecting series. The coinage includes information on the collector coin minting process.
Collector coins are largely made by hand. The design process begins with a model drafted by the designer. The minting tool or punch is made by carving the digitised 3D-model onto a steel surface and tempering the steel by rapid heating and cooling.
The punch is then used to press a negative of the model onto the end of a steel cone with which the actual minting is carried out. This creates a stamp used to mint coins from silver blanks.
Personnel involved in the production of proof-quality collector coins wear gloves at all stages of the production process. Before minting the coins, the machine operator inspects the blank and cleans it with compressed air. The coin is then minted with several blows in rapid succession.
Every collector coin is inspected manually before being delivered on a tray to packaging. After going through several inspections, each collector coin is enclosed in a clear plastic capsule and individually packaged by hand.
