On Wednesday, 21 January, the 6-member panel convened by Eesti Pank picked three winners from among the designs submitted to the design competition for a silver and gold collector coin dedicated to the tradition of the Estonian Song and Dance festivals
.

The winner of the design competition for the 100-kroon gold collector coin is the design "Kumin" by graphic designer Triinu Sild and jewellery artist Merle Kasonen. The second place went to the design "Päike" by Berbel Lätt, a student of the Estonian Academy of Arts, and artists Tiiu Pirsko and Mati Veermets received the third place with their design "President".

The design competition for the 10-kroon silver collector coin was won by the design "Parlament I" by artists Tiiu Pirsko and Mati Veermets. The same authors received also the third place with their design "Tiideratas". The design "Sõlg" by Liis Dvorjanski and Kaarel Kukk, students of the Estonian Academy of Arts, received the second place.

After the coins are issued, the winner will be paid the prize money of 30,000 kroons. The winner of the second place will receive 20,000 kroons and that of the third place 15,000 kroons. If a design has several authors, they will have to share the prize money.

After approval by the Supervisory Board of Eesti Pank the designs will be published on the web site of Eesti Pank.

"Designing coins dedicated to the Song and Dance Festival was definitely not an easy task, since it required the depiction on a small coin of the 140-year-long tradition of song festivals and the 18-year-long experience of organising dance festivals. Thus, we were happy about the large number of participants. All in all, we received 69 designs for the competition: 38 for the gold coin and 31 for the silver coin," commented Rait Roosve, Head of the Cash and Security Department of Eesti Pank.

Eesti Pank will issue the coins dedicated to the Song and Dance Festival in June 2009.

The collector coin design competition's technical, participation and assessment conditions and criteria are available on the web site of Eesti Pank.
