The ice hockey coin has been issued

Today, Mint of Finland issued the official coin of the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship. The coin can be ordered with the nominal value of a circulation coin from the Mint of Finland factory outlet in bags of ten with no postage charges.

Get into the championship spirit by jiggling the coins. Mint of Finland has started selling the official Ice Hockey home game coins today.

Due to the Finnish Ministry of Finance's decision, Mint of Finland has minted a coin with a nominal value of five euros to honour the World Championship, and it also offers IIHF approved World Championship coin sets which include all of this year's circulation coins, freshly minted and in matt BU quality. One coin set costs 24 euros.

The ice hockey has been minted in two values

The 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship collector coin comes in two values. The coin, with a value of a circulation coin, can be bought in bags of ten for fifty euros a bag. The polished collector coin, which makes a great gift as well, can be purchased for sixteen euros. The polished championship coin comes in a box which tells the story of the coin, and the coin is protected by a clear plastic cover.

"It is fair to say that ice hockey is the national sport of Finland, as approximately 1.7 million Finns watch ice hockey. We are happy with the decision by the Finnish Ministry of Finance to acknowledge the Finnish ice hockey fans with a miniature sculpture like this collector coin", says Henna Karjalainen, the Communications Director of Mint of Finland.
