PRESS RELEASE 19 December 2008
A student of the Estonian Academy of Arts wins the design competition for the collector coin dedicated to the Estonian National Museum
On Tuesday, 16 December, the 7-member panel convened by Eesti Pank chose three winners from among the designs submitted to the design competition for the collector coin dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Estonian National Museum.
The winner of the design competition is Liis Dvorjanski, a student of the Estonian Academy of Arts, with her design "Kiil". Kaupo Kangur's design "Püha4" got the second place and Berbel Lätti, another student of the Estonian Academy of Arts, came third with her design "Käed". After the coins will have been issued, the winner is paid the prize money of 30,000 kroons. The winner of the second place will receive 20,000 kroons and of the third place 15,000 kroons.
According to the decision of the panel and the minting conditions of the coin, the author will have to make the prescribed changes in her design within ten days, after which the design will be published on the web site of Eesti Pank.
When commenting on the participation in the design competition for the collector coin dedicated to the anniversary of the Estonian National Museum, Head of the Cash and Security Department Rait Roosve said the number of participants was the highest of all times. "We received 71 designs from 50 artists. Taking into consideration that this competition was a very difficult one, since we expected designs encompassing the importance of the Estonian National Museum in our cultural development and following the shape of Estonian spoke coins, the large number of designs was a pleasant surprise," Roosve said. In November, Eesti Pank organised a special seminar explaining the principles of designing collector coins, which, according to Roosve, also contributed to the abundance of designs submitted to the competition.
Eesti Pank will issue the 10-kroon silver collector coin dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Estonian National Museum in April 2009.
The deadline of the design competition for a twin collector coin dedicated to the Estonian Song and Dance Festival is 19 January 2009 at 16.00.
