Devastated with the enormity of the tragedy that occurred in Smolensk this morning, the Management Board of the National Bank of Poland has paid tribute to all the victims of the catastrophe which – according to available information – has among others claimed the lives of the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Lech Kaczyński and his wife, and also of the President of the National Bank of Poland, Mr Sławomir Stanisław Skrzypek.

In view of the present situation, the duties of the President of the NBP shall be performed by the First Deputy President of the NBP, Mr Piotr Wiesiołek.

The National Bank of Poland is functioning without any disturbances, pursuing all the statutory tasks of the central bank.
