The 2011 Proof coin set is one of the most impressive and elegant coin sets Mint of Finland issues in 2011. The Proof coin set includes all Finnish 2011 euro coins and a mint medal. Protection of the Baltic Sea is Mint of Finland’s this year’s ethical theme.
The coin set is packaged in an elegant wooden case. The glassy proof coins are nestled in the stylish velvet-lined wooden case. The coin set also looks magnificent displayed open on a bookshelf, amongst other places.
The €2 commemorative coin in the series was minted in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Bank of Finland.
Our vulnerable sea
The Baltic Sea is in need of international protection. The sea’s vulnerability is owed to its fundamental features: it is a low, cold, brackish inland sea. The problems of the Baltic Sea are a concern for all countries in the region.
The eutrophication caused by loads of nitrogen and phosphorus and the resulting oxygen deficiencies in water masses is the worst threat to the Baltic Sea. Eutrophication also endangers marine species and poses a threat to the livelihoods and recreational activities practiced along the coast.

Release of the Finnish 2011 Proof coin set postponed
The release of the complete coin set of the glassy 2011 circulation coins has been postponed. The Finnish Proof coin set will be released 24 November 2011. The release of the coin set is postponed because the finalising of the silver mint medal that is part of the set is taking longer than estimated.
Unfortunately, the manufacture of the silver mint medal for the 2011 coin set was not successful with the pattern designed for it. Finishing the silver mint medals for the coin set as well as the coin set's release is therefore delayed. The coin set is released 24 November 2011.
Theme for the 2011 Proof coin set is the protection of the Baltic Sea
Every year, Mint of Finland offers a Proof coin set that contains all of that year's circulation coins in glassy i.e. Proof quality. In addition to circulation coins the coin set also includes a so called silver mint medal i.e. a commemorative medal.
The coin sets have traditionally been manufactured in different themes that the silver mint medals reflect. The 2011 Proof coin set got its theme from Mint of Finland's ethical theme for 2011, the protection of the Baltic Sea.
