The Bank of Russia issues commemorative coins, dedicated to the XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Winter Games in 2014 in Sochi.
On April 15th , 2011:
of precious metals with the year of mintage “2014”:
- four silver proof coins in denomination of 3 Roubles “Biathlon”, “Alpine Skiing”, “Figure Skating” and “Hockey”,
- a gold proof coin in denomination of 1000 Roubles “Flora of Sochi”,
of base metals with the year of mintage “2011”:
- a coin in denomination of 25 Roubles;
On September 1st, 2011:
of precious metals with the year of mintage “2014”:
- a silver proof coin in denomination of 100 Roubles “Russian Winter”
- two gold proof coins in denomination of 50 Roubles “Bobsleigh” and “Curling”.
The description of the coins of precious metals:
Silver proof coins in denomination of 3 Roubles “Biathlon”, “Alpine Skiing”, “Figure Skating” and “Hockey” (fine metal content 31,1g, fineness 925/1000, catalogue numbers 5111-0212, 5111-0213, 5111-0214, 5111-0215 respectively, diameter 39.0 mm, mintage up to 35000 pcs of each kind), a silver proof coin in denomination of 100 Roubles “Russian Winter” (fine metal content 1000 g, fineness 925/1000, catalogue number 5117-0046, diameter 100.0 mm, mintage up to 1200 pcs), gold proof coins in denomination of 50 Roubles “Bobsleigh” and “Curling” (fine metal content 7.78g, fineness 999/1000, catalogue numbers 5216-0076 and 5216-0077 respectively, diameter 22.6 mm, mintage up to 20 000 pcs of each kind) and a gold proof coin in denomination of 1000 Roubles “Flora of Sochi” (fine metal content 155.5g, fineness 999/1000, catalogue number 5220-0011, diameter 50.0 mm, mintage up to 600 pcs) have the rim, raised on both sides of the coins along the circumference.
The obverse side of the coin depicts the relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and a semicircular inscription over it “РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION), the indications of the denominations of the coins “3 РУБЛЯ” (THREE ROUBLES), “100 РУБЛЕЙ” (ONE HUNDRED ROUBLES), “50 РУБЛЕЙ” (FIFTY ROUBLES), “1000 РУБЛЕЙ” (ONE THOUSAND ROUBLES) respectively and the year of issue “2014 г.”, the indication of the metal according to the D.I. Mendeleyev Periodic System of Elements, the purity, the trade mark of the mint and the fine precious metal content.
The reverse side:
- of the silver 3 Roubles coin “Biathlon” depicts the relief images of a biathlete and a little branch of the Pitsunda pine, the latter performed in color. At the right side the inscription says “СОЧИ 2014” (SOCHI 2014) in two lines and the depiction of five Olympic rings is under it;
- of the silver 3 Roubles coin “Alpine Skiing” depicts the relief images of a mountain skier and an inflorescence of magnolia, the latter performed in color. At the right side the inscription says “СОЧИ 2014” (SOCHI 2014) in two lines and the depiction of five Olympic rings is under it;
- of the silver 3 Roubles coin “Figure Skating” depicts the relief images of a lady figure skater and the Voronov snowdrop, the latter performed in color. At the right side the inscription says “СОЧИ 2014” (SOCHI 2014) in two lines and the depiction of five Olympic rings is under it;
- of the silver 3 Roubles coin “Hockey” depicts the relief images of a hockey player and a branch of a cork oak, the latter performed in color. At the right side the inscription says “СОЧИ 2014” (SOCHI 2014) in two lines and the depiction of five Olympic rings is under it;
- of the silver 100 Roubles coin “Russian Winter” depicts the relief images of people playing an old folk game named “pot” on the lower right side, a fisherman on the left side, a sledge carousel and a group of people on the top. On the lower left side the inscription says “СОЧИ 2014” (SOCHI 2014) in two lines and the depiction of five Olympic rings is under it;
- of the gold 50 Roubles coin “Bobsleigh” depicts the relief image of a 4 men bobsleigh team. Against the background of the mountains on the lower part of the coin there is an inscription “СОЧИ 2014” (SOCHI 2014) and the image of five Olympic rings over it;
- of the gold 50 Roubles coin “Curling” depicts the relief images of two curling players. Against the background of the mountains on the lower part of the coin there is an inscription “СОЧИ 2014” (SOCHI 2014) and the image of five Olympic rings over it;
- of the gold 1000 Roubles coin “Flora of Sochi” depicts the relief allegoric image of goddess Flora whose hair resembles the plants growing in the Sochi region. To the right of it there is an image of a lady figure skater, spinning on ice against the background of the mountains. On the right side of the coin the inscription says “СОЧИ 2014” (SOCHI 2014) in two lines and the image of five Olympic rings is under it.
The edge of the coins is corrugated.
The description of the coin of base metals:
The coin of white metal is 27.0 mm in diameter. The coin has the rim, raised on the obverse side of the coin along the circumference. The edge of the coin is corrugated.
The obverse side of the coin depicts the relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Russian Federation and a semicircular inscription over it “РОССИЙСКАЯ ФЕДЕРАЦИЯ” (THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION). The inscription indicates the denomination of the coin “25 РУБЛЕЙ” (TWENTY FIVE ROUBLES) and the year of issue – “2011 г.”, on the right side there is the trade mark of the mint.
The reverse side of the coin depicts the image of the logo of the XXII Olympic winter games in 2014 in Sochi against the background of the mountains.
The mintage of the coin – up to 10 000 000 pcs.
The coins are legal tender of the Russian Federation. They are obligatory for acceptance for all kinds of payments without any restrictions at their face value.
