On 8 June 2011, Danmarks Nationalbank issues a new 20-krone coin with the paddle steamer Hjejlen as its motif.
The series depicts different types of ships, selected to cover various aspects of Danish maritime history. The Hjejlen coin will be issued in an edition of 0.7 million coins in ordinary circulation.
The 150th anniversary of the Hjejlen
– Join the celebrations on 8 June at 3:00 pm To mark the Hjejlen’s 150th anniversary, Post Danmark and the Danish Royal Mint have been invited on a trip from Ry to Silkeborg.
At around 3:00 pm the Hjejlen will arrive at Silkeborg and the 20-krone coin and a new stamp will be presented in the foyer of the old Paper Mill.
In this connection, a special coin letter containing the new stamp and the new 20-krone coin will be on sale for DKK 99. It will also be possible to buy one Hjejlen coin in the proof version for DKK 125. Cash payment only.
The coin and stamp will also be on sale at Ry harbour from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.
There will be an opportunity to meet the medallist Henrik Wiberg and the stamp engraver Martin Mörck at the presentation. The events at the old Paper Mill and Ry harbour are both open to the public.
For further information, see http://www.hjejlen150.dk (in Danish only).
The medallist
The motif for the new ship coin was designed by medallist Henrik Wiberg, the Royal Danish Mint, who has created a very attractive relief of the beautiful steamer. Henrik Wiberg also designed the motif for the ship coin with the Royal Yacht Dannebrog. For further information about Henrik Wiberg and his work with the coin, see http://www.royalmint. dk.
Proof version
The coin will also be minted in a proof version for collectors. This quality is minted using extremely well-polished dies and with extra strokes, which provides a silky smooth, clearly embossed motif. The price for a proof coin, delivered in a box, is DKK 125 incl. VAT.
Ordering
Due to the Royal Danish Mint’s participation in the celebrations at Silkeborg, the coins cannot be ordered from its website until 9 June 2011. The proof version will only be on sale at Danmarks Nationalbank (Banking Services) and via http://www.royalmint.dk in the period 9-15 June 2011 (both dates included). Orders are limited to three coins per customer. Processing of orders for proof coins will take about one week.
Purchasing the new ship coin
The new ship coin can be purchased from certain banks and via the Royal Danish Mint’s website from 9 June 2011. The next ship coin is expected to be issued in the spring of 2012.
