Bulgaria is confident it could introduce the euro, the single European currency, and join the Schengen Space 2010/2011, Deputy parliamentary Speaker Lyuben Kornezov assured Victor Manuel da Silva Caldeira, President of the EU Board of Auditors General, at a conference they had in Sofia. Kornezov voiced hopes for successful collaboration between the EU Audit Office and the national parliament. The ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon presupposes that consolidated audit reports should be forwarded to national parliaments on an annual basis to be scrutinized by the departmental parliament committees, he said. Victor Caldeira said he was pleased Bulgaria was the sixth country to ratify the Treaty of Lisbon, which enhanced greatly the role of national parliaments in supervising EU fund outlays.

Die EU-Schuldenkrise macht auch vor den neuen Währungsbeitrittskandidaten nicht halt. Bulgarien hatte vor, den Euro bald einzuführen. Nun soll die Einführung nach hinten verschoben werden.
