This is the fifth coin of a series that will gather in nine gold commemorative collector coins nine historical figures, who played a decisive role in projecting Portugal in the World.

Luís Vaz de Camões (ca. 1524 — 10th of June 1580) is often considered as the greatest poet of the Portuguese language and one of the greatest of humanity. His genius can be compared to that of Virgil, Dante, Cervantes or Shakespeare. The epic Os Lusíadas, his most significant work, was first published in 1572.
