Clovis :
Face : un portrait de Clovis avec sa couronne mérovingienne ainsi que son nom écrit avec une écriture stylisée.
Revers : la colombe et les fonts baptismaux, symboles de son baptême à Reims ; ses dates de règne. La valeur faciale 50 euro ou 10 euro.
Le tirage de chacune de ces trois pièces est limité à :
― pièce de 50 € en or 1/4 once de qualité Belle Epreuve : 1 500 exemplaires ;
― pièce de 10 € en argent de qualité Belle Epreuve : 20 000 exemplaires.

Description: Monnaie de Paris wanted to give its 2011 collection a very French touch. So for the creation of its major theme, “From Clovis to the Republic” - 1,500 years of French history, it naturally looked to Christian Lacroix, Artistic Advisor to Monnaie de Paris since summer 2010. Mr Lacroix has always brilliantly drawn on France’s historical and cultural heritage in designing his own creations. And now, for Monnaie de Paris, he has taken his inspiration from the aesthetic codes that have guided the mint since its founding to design the collection of 15 coins that will honour the great kings, emperors and presidents of France over the next five years. “This was a challenge I couldn’t resist: to journey through 1,500 years of French history, compose a gallery of portraits of France’s fifteen most noteworthy kings, emperors and presidents, create a design that will act as a common thread linking a series of heads of state beginning with Clovis and ending with… François Mitterrand, envision the features of the ones whose faces are unknown to us, and faithfully depict those who are part of our collective memory. After first considering a rather elaborate and dramatic approach, I ultimately opted for a more sober, classic style, a bit like ancient coins, with a simple profile and, on the reverse, a symbol of the leader in question (a globe for Charlemagne, a baptistery for Clovis, and so on). For me, having spent so many hours as a child reading history books and creating my own illustrated chronicles, it is a distinct pleasure and honour to be entrusted with the important and poetic task of designing these ‘heads’ (in all the senses of the word) who, each in his own way and in his own turn, have changed the ‘face’ of this country.” Christian Lacroix
