Hoffentlich prägen die Slowaken den 2 er auch mal in PP.
Wäre doch bei diesen tollen Motiven ( 10 er / 20 er Silver ) eine feine Geschichte.

Die aus Thessaloniki stammenden Brüder Konstantin und Michael wurden als die Heiligen Kyrill und Method(ius) bekannt. Ihr Gedenktag in der Liturgie ist der 14. Februar. Kyrill und Methodius betrieben gemeinsam die christliche Missionierung slawischer Völker im 9. Jahrhundert und begannen mit der Verschriftlichung slawischer Sprachen, weshalb man sie heute auch als Slawenapostel bezeichnet.

Bin gespannt, was das für ein Motiv wird.

Einen ersten Eindruck dieser Münze kann man bekommen, wenn man sich die hier unten abgebildete Münze ansieht. Es ist ein ehemaliger Entwurf für die Kursmünzen der Slowakei, der damals unterlegen ist, aber genau das Thema der neuen Gedenkmünze beinhaltet.

Edit: Nur damit es keine Missverständnisse gibt: Das Motiv der tatsächlich zu prägenden Münze kann natürlich gänzlich anders aussehen als dieser damalige Entwurf ... - es soll ja erst in einem Wettbewerb ermittelt werden, der im Mai 2012 gestartet wurde!

Results of the public anonymous competition for the design of a €2 commemorative coin to mark the 1150 anniversary of the arrival of the mission of Constantine and Methodius to Greater Moravia

In May 2012 Národná banka Slovenska (NBS) announced a public anonymous competition for the design of a €2 commemorative coin to mark the 1150 anniversary of the arrival of the mission of Constantine (Cyril) and Methodius to Greater Moravia. The two brothers from Thessalonica played an important role in laying the foundations of European civilisation and in 1980 they were proclaimed co-patrons of Europe.
A total of twenty-two designs by thirteen designers were entered in the competition, which was judged in June 2012 by the NBS Governor's Committee for the Assessment of Slovak Euro Coin Designs. The Committee took expert advice from Ján Steinhübel CSc. from the Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
A design by Mgr. art. Miroslav Hric ArtD. won first prize in the competition and was approved for the coin. The Committee praised the design for its thematic and compositional balance, for the clarity and sharpness of its composition, and for the way it incorporated textual elements. In terms of its details, this design was deemed to best meet the stipulated criteria since it references all the contributions that Saints Cyril and Methodius made to Slovak history. The design depicts the two figures and, in the foreground, a double cross stood on the middle of three peaks. The duble cross and peaks are a symbol of Slovakia and represent the significance of the brother's mission, which helped ensure the full sovereignty and legitimacy of Greater Moravia as the first Slav state in central Europe. The figure of Constantine is holding a book that symbolises education and faith, while Methodius is shown alongside a church that symbolises faith and institutional Christianity.
The original competition design was modified in line with recommendations made within the notification and approval procedure conducted pursuant to Council Regulation (EC) No 975/98 on denominations and technical specifications of euro coins intended for circulation, as amended.
The second prize was awarded to a design by Mgr. art. Roman Lugár, which features finely detailed portraits of the brothers in a circular composition and includes text in Glagolitic, the oldest known Slav alphabet.
The third-prize design by Pavel Károly was commended by the Commission for the high quality of its bas-relief work and its depiction of the motif. It shows the figures of Constantine and Methodius set within the three peaks symbolising Slovakia, and at its centre is a double cross. Also depicted are a book and textual elements.

The €2 commemorative coin is due to be issued in May 2013.

In the light of recent reports in the Slovak media concerning a change in the design of the €2 commemorative coin marking the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of the mission of Constantine and Methodius to Great Moravia - due to be issued in May 2013 - Národná banka Slovenska today issues the following statement:

1) Národná banka Slovenska (NBS) plans to issue the coin in accordance with its approved Issue Plan for Commemorative and Collector Coins for the years 2011 to 2015. The decision of NBS to include the coin in the Issue Plan was based on a proposal made by the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic (Pamiatkový úrad SR).

2) Considering the historical and social significance of the mission of Constantine and Methodius, NBS wanted to issue a coin that would bring this motif to the widest possible public in Slovakia and the rest of Europe. The NBS Bank Board therefore decided that the motif would be featured on a €2 commemorative coin, meaning that it would be in circulation throughout the euro area and not only in the Slovak Republic.
NBS sees the issuance of this coin as an important way of bringing the historical significance of Constantine and Methodius to a wider European public.

3) Since the coin is a euro commemorative coin, it is subject to the provision laid down in Article 1i of Council Regulation (EC) 975/98 as amended, according to which Member States are required to inform each other of the draft designs of national sides of euro circulation coins before the formal approval of those designs.
The draft designs of commemorative coins must also be sent to the Council of the European Union (specifically to the Economic and Financial Affairs Council), to the European Commission, and to other Member States whose currency is the euro.
The result of this process for the abovementioned €2 commemorative coin was that the European Commission and certain other Member States asked NBS to remove religious symbols from the draft design (specifically the saints' halos and the crosses on their pallia). These changes were deemed necessary in order for the designs to comply with the principle of respect for religious diversity, as laid down in Article 22 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (which has the same legal force as the Treaty on European Union and the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union).

4) The NBS Bank Board accepted these requests on the following grounds:

not to accept the requests would jeopardise the principal objective of the coin, namely to increase awareness throughout the European Union of the mission of Saints Cyril and Methodius;
in other recent cases, similar requests for the modification of coin designs (in order to respect religious diversity) have been accepted;
the Vatican, too, has in the past accepted requests for the modification of its €2 commemorative coin designs and it did so when the legal regulation of such designs was less strict (the law governing the designs of national sides of euro circulation coins has been significantly stricter since July 2012).

Národná banka Slovenska believes that the design finally approved for the €2 commemorative coin marking the arrival of the mission of Constantine and Methodius to Great Moravia represents a dignified joining of two symbols - the symbol of statehood and the symbol of Christianity. The Slovak double cross on three peaks and the bishop's crozier held by Methodius are depicted as one and the same.
