In the next months, the Royal Spanish Mint has previewed the issue of the following coins and collections:

• The 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa
• The Europa Program - Phillip II (*)
• 12 and 2 Euros - 10th Anniversary Economic and Monetary Union (*)
• II Series Numismatic Treasures - 4th Centenary of the Cincuentin and the Centen (*)
• II Series Spanish Painters (*)
• Euro Coinage 2009 - non-circulated
• Euro Coinage 2009 - Proof

For the Royal Spanish Mint, as for many European mints, 2009 marks the 10th Anniversary of the Eurosystem. On 1st January 1999 the ECB and the central banks of the EU countries adopting the Euro came together to form the European System of Central Banks, and monetary authority for the new currency was transferred to the Governing Council of the ECB. Additionally, that day the Euro was introduced as an electronic means of payment in the EMU countries.
To commemorate such a historical event, the Royal Spanish Mint, as the rest of the EMU countries, takes part in the joint issue of a 2 Euro commemorative coin with a common design. Additionally, the annual issue of the 12 Euro BU silver coin will be dedicated to this commemoration.
We will dedicate the sixth issue in the EUROPA Programme, under the common theme «European Heritage», to Philip II of Habsburg. King of Spain, Portugal, Naples and Sicily, King consort of England and Ireland, Ruler of the Spanish Netherlands and Duke of Milan and Burgundy, ruling also a vast empire in the Americas. During his reign the Philippines were incorporated to the Spanish Crown. As a matter of fact, this archipelago was named in his honour.
As in previous issues, we are producing two coins, a gold one and a silver one.
A series of two proof coins, minted in gold and silver, are being issued to commemorate the 2010 FIFA World South Africa.
