VAT for collector coins will change in 2016
A tax audit was performed at Mint of Finland Ltd in August 2015. Based on the results, the Finnish Tax Administration issued new instructions for VAT levied on collector coins sold at nominal value.

According to section 59 of the Value Added Tax Act, the sale of bank notes and coins which are current tender, with the exception of bank notes and coins whose selling price is determined on the basis of their value as collectors’ items or of their metal value, is tax-free.

According to the interpretation of the Tax Administration,

five-euro collector coins are current tender only in the country in which they were released and hold numismatic value from the date of their release, and are thus always subject to VAT; and
commemorative two-euro coins are current tender, but are considered to hold numismatic value if the buyer requires the delivery of a specific theme, in which case they are subject to VAT.

As a result of these rulings made by the Tax Administration, Mint of Finland Ltd will change the VAT of two- and five-euro collector coins and commemorative coins sold at nominal value from the beginning of 2016. For buyers liable for VAT, the tax is deductible and the net price of the above-mentioned coins will not change.

Mehrwertsteuer für 2-Euro-Gedenkmünzen? Da hat wohl jemand zu viel Schulden im Staatshaushalt. Können Sie ohne mich abbauen den Schuldenberg. Viel zu hohe Auflagen, hohe Preise und für jeden Anlass eine Münze. Man hat den Eindruck, dass man als Sammler nur noch zum Geld abgeben da sein soll. Finnland gestrichen.

Mint of Finland has minted a small amount of uncirculated coins in 2016 following a decision from the Ministry of Finance. The coins are mainly being released for collectors and are not intended for general circulation. The final amount of the mintage/coin will be informed later.

Planned number of coins minted in 2016: 200,000 x 1 c, 2 c, 5 c, 10 c, 20 c, 50 c, 1 € and 2 €.

Kann man aber auch anders sehen.
Sie müssen sich doch die Option offenhalten von einzelnen
Nominalen noch nachprägen zu können für den Fall, daß
tatsächlich ein Bedarf an Münzen für den Umlauf besteht.
Das wird dann aber wohl kaum bei allen acht Nominalen passieren.

200.000 plus die verschiedenen KMS.
